Dear Parents and Scouts,
Boy Scout troop 329 has the opportunity to go on a 3 day multi-activity outing consisting of caving (spelunking), climbing and bouldering. We will travel to Popp’s Cave, located 12 miles outside of Richland Center, Wisconsin. The trip will give our scouts the chance to explore a true natural cave. Traveling to the cave is a challenge in of itself. Popp’s Cave is situated at the top of a large hill that is about a mile hike. Scouts will be briefed at the beginning of the trip about safety and conduct while hiking and while traveling in the cave. The cave has a variety of rooms; some large that can be walked through, others that will require crawling or getting low to squeeze through.
Climbing will take place at Devil’s Lake in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Devil’s Lake contains some of the best rock climbing in the Midwest. The rock cliffs are quartzite, which makes the surface slippery so we will have a supply of climbing shoes on hand. Mr. Miceli will set up all climbs and the repel station. Our scouts will been given instruction in climbing and repelling. All climbing safety gear will be provided.
The cost of the trip is $12.00 per scout. The date will be Friday June 1st through Sunday June 3rd. We will depart from the Moose Lodge on Friday at 5:00 pm and return Sunday at 4pm.
An itinerary and a list of items to bring will follow.

It's Time For T- Shirts
Order June 4, 2012
Troop 329 is offering a number of optional t-shirts for the Scouts to wear
at Summer Camp, and at other troop events. These t-shirts are considered a “class B”
uniform compared to the regular scout shirt with all of its patches (Class A). We encourage
the Scouts to have a couple of Class B shirts so that they can be “part of the team” on outings
and wear occasionally at Troop meetings. The special t-shirts will also be a remembrance of specific outings
Court of Honor
The Last Court of Honor for the year
On Monday, June 4, 2012, we will have our last Court of Honor for the Scout year. Everyone is invited to the program, which will start at 7:00 PM and be at the Hidden Lake Beach in the Hidden Lake Subdivision. (There is a map on-line at www.bst329.org ) There will be advancements in rank presented, merit badges awarded, scouts recognized for outstanding service and an Order of the Arrow ceremony. Even if your son is not receiving an award, it is important that all attend. It will be a good chance to meet other parents and enjoy a bit of fellowship.

High Adventure Canoe Trip Boundary Waters 2012
----------------------------------------------
Overview of the trip: This year the troop has planned a High Adventure Canoe Trip to the Boundary Waters. Ely, Minnesota is the home of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) which has a million acres of wilderness, with over 1,000 pristine lakes and streams, and over 1500 miles of canoe routes. It is considered by some to be the most beautiful wilderness they have ever seen. National Geographic named it one of 50 Destinations of a Lifetime.
The BWCA is a true wilderness experience without motors, electricity, or telephone lines and no roads to the inner lakes. The trip is scheduled for June 6th through June 12th. Scouts will experience nature at its finest and hopefully see a variety of wildlife. We will practice the Leave No Trace philosophy. Scouts will also have the chance to work on several merit badges such as canoeing, fishing, camping and astronomy to name a few. There will many opportunities for scouts to challenge themselves physically during this trip.
Date: Wednesday, June 6th – Tuesday, June 12th
Scout Requirements:
13 years of age at the time of the trip
1st Class and have Swimming and 1st Aid Merit Badges
Pass a medical physical ( Adults as well)
Carry a birth certificate ( Close to Canadian waters)

Estimated Cost: The estimated cost which will include transportation, 5 days/ 4 nights in the boundary waters, outfitter services which will include all equipment and food, park permits, trip t-shirt, patch and meals on June 6th and 11th is $400 per scout.
